MIGM 2025 Gold Trends

It is year 11 with our May is Gold Month partnership and this year we want to take a moment to talk about just how much the price of gold has gone up since one year ago. Better yet, let’s go back to when we had our very first partnership – this brings us to 2014 where gold prices in May of 2014 were about $1300 per ounce.  And now we are at a record high of $3300 per ounce!

Our jewelry community has been constantly talking about the steady rising prices of gold and I am continually seeing designers and jewelry brands putting out statements regarding price increases for their pieces. This topic has become a part of our daily scroll and it doesn’t seem to be backing off at all. As someone who makes a living from selling fine karat gold jewelry, it is an interesting time! As a collector, I don’t expect my pieces to increase in value – they already bring me so much joy (something you can’t put a price on) but to have them monetarily increase in value is an unexpected reward. As a buyer and seller, it is tough to see something you typically used to pay a lot less for become exponentially higher – it sometimes goes against my instinct! Sometimes I have to actually do the math now or else I’d sell myself short every time!

With such an increase from last year’s average price per ounce for gold – up about $1000 per ounce – where does that lead us?! How do you feel about buying karat gold right now? Are you starting to see it as an investment? For me, gold will always be a precious metal I desire. Jewelry is my favorite thing – out of all the things on this gigantic Earth, jewelry is my absolute number one. So whether the value of gold is $5 per ounce or $5000, I will be scheming or plotting on what my next piece will be to add to my collection.

I’m excited to talk about all things gold every week and get everyone to participate in showing me their gold like years in the past, focusing on what you’re wearing in real time. I also would love to help you with this year’s theme of “gold as an investment” by sharing pieces I’ve had for years and show how you can style them with newer acquisitions. Gold never goes out of style and hopefully I can convey this each week!

Ok lastly, here are this year’s gold jewelry trends from May is Gold Month and ways I’ve styled each one. Let this help you plan your posts over on Instagram and don’t forget to use the hashtag #ShowMeYourGold when sharing.

MIGM 2025 Gold Trends

Week One: Gold Bracelets

This past year I’ve learned how important it is to make the right investments when it comes to gold bracelets. Out of all the categories of jewelry, I personally think that bracelets get the most wear and tear. They’re constantly being banged against tables, on keyboards and everything in between. I have slowly traded in my semi-hollow bracelets for solid karat gold, and although all gold when worn 24/7 will get scratched up (there’s no way of preventing scratches or dents), solid pieces hold up better in the long run. That’s not to say I don’t have any semi-hollow bracelets in my collection, because I do! And many are my favorite – I just know not to wear them 24/7. I now refer to my bangle stack and my mini stock market on my wrist.

Week Two: Gold Rings

As a collector, I always gravitate towards rings that have some heft to them – I wanna feel like I’m wearing “armor” on my fingers. It is like a security blanket! Heavier, solid rings are also a better choice in the long run in terms of longevity. I’ve noticed buyers have been feeling the same way. As a seller, I’m getting asked more and more to see extra photos of the inside shank of a ring or the gallery of a ring – customers are wanting to see if areas of the ring are hollowed out. All of this is totally a preference, but keeping that in mind when buying rings is a great tip! Do you want to save money and opt for a lighter-weight ring? Or do you want something solid with no shortcomings?

Week Three: Gold Hoops

I know I’ve been saying how much I prefer solid vs semi-hollow karat gold jewelry, but when it comes to hoops, I prefer as lightweight as possible! This is when semi-hollow is necessary for me. You can’t go wrong with a classic gold hoop – I’ve been enjoying trying on different styles by changing up things like thickness, diameter and posts vs. snap bars. Small tweaks to those categories can totally change the vibe of the piece. I’ve also been loving hoops that are interchangeable in some way – like dangling charms off of them – or even these puffy stars that slip on and off these slim oval hoops (available on shopGemGossip) they’re so fun!

Week Four: Gold Necklaces

Are we still loving that layered gold necklace look?! For the most part, I think we do. And if there’s any new trends happening in this sector, I’d like to note the rise of connectors, clasps and bits/bobs that add finesse, structure and fun ways of wearing things. Connectors are for people who think outside the box – those who really take a moment to thoroughly analyze how to get the most out of what and how much they can wear. As a collector, sometimes I think connectors are for those that are headed to “pro” status when it comes to styling. Sometimes I don’t even consider myself worthy of connectors because life has yet to afford me some decent jewelry styling time, but when that time comes I’ll be sure to share with you all 🙂

Week Five: Gold Earrings

Last year I was really into chain earrings and this year I’m loving puffy and doorknocker styles done in karat gold. This current lineup in the photo above are all my favorites I’ve been wearing lately. I honestly can’t pick a favorite. I’ve noticed these styles have been effortlessly elevating my look – especially on a busy day, having to drop everything in between work and mom life while scrambling to the car pickup line at preschool. If there’s anything I like to do to look halfway decent at Gino’s school, it’s a quick eyelash curl, change into a pair of jeans and add earrings! Instant pick-me-up for school pickup.

Week Six: Men’s Gold

Last year I talked about how my husband had been selling pieces of karat gold that he doesn’t wear anymore and now, knowing where the current price of gold is at, I wish we waited to sell!  But there’s no way we could’ve known how much the prices would increase and same goes for buying as does selling. There’s never a perfect time! There’s no way to predict! My advice would be to live for the present – buy things that make you happy without putting you into debt and sell things you are ready to part with and won’t regret selling in the future. One of those things my husband almost sold was his extremely heavy and thick cuban link bracelet. This thing is SOLID and weighs nearly 113 grams! I remember talking him out of it and he’s very happy that he didn’t sell it. He wears it whenever we have a special occasion and he really treasures it now – especially knowing he almost sold it!
