In the center of Monterrey, near its historic quarter and across from its city hall and main cathedral, stands a brunt orange postmodern building by renowned Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta. Notable exhibitions traveling from other museums include solos for Annette Messager, Ernesto Neto, and Ron Mueck. Since the…

Everything changed about the Best Picture race in 2009, when the Academy adopted the preferential ballot as their Best Picture voting method. This was the same year the Best Picture field was expanded from five to ten nominees (as a response to “The Dark Knight” and “Wall-E” getting shut out of the 2008 Best Picture race), and the Academy recognized that winning by a simple plurality wasn’t good enough anymore for a field of ten nominees. No one wants a Best Picture winner that only gets 13% of the vote. The preferential ballot thankfully prevents that, but it also makes…

The intarsia hoops combine different colorways of turquoise inlaid beautifully in a fanned…

A judge has dismissed a 2021 lawsuit against Jeff Koons that alleged his seminal ‘Made In Heaven” series violated copyright protections. The lawsuit, filed in 2010 in New York’s Southern District Court, accused the American artist of infringing on the copyrights of set designer Michael A. Hayden by depicting his sets and props in paintings, as well as other works, in Koons’ sexually explicit series. But US District Judge Timothy Reif concluded Hayden’s claim was time-barred and he waited too long to sue Koons as the works were made more than three decades prior.
