The Loewe Foundation has announced the shortlist for its 2025 Craft Prize, selecting 30 artists from 18 countries. These finalists will present their works in an exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid from May 30th to June 29th. The prize winner will be chosen on May 29th and announced during the opening ceremony for the group exhibition. The recipient will receive a €50,000 ($51,000) award. A wealth of Neoclassicist art has joined the holdings of the Art Institute of Chicago via collectors Jeffrey and Carol Horvitz, who have gifted the museum around 2,250 works of French art made between the 16th and 19th centuries. The gift comes after held two shows devoted to the Horvitzes’ collection, one focused on Neoclassicist paintings, the other on drawings. Both exhibitions were staged last year. Chinese artist Ai Weiwei was recently barred from entering Switzerland after he was unable to produce a visitor’s visa. According to an Instagram post by Ai, he spent the evening of February 10 on a bench at the Zurich airport. Ai’s Instagram post was captioned with: “‘This is Switzerland, not Portugal’ they told me. Conservators at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London have uncovered a previously hidden image of a mystery woman beneath the surface of Pablo Picasso’s Portrait of Mateu Fernández de Soto (1901).
