Today’s Jewelry Collection Story comes from Kaila of @herloveofgold – I have been following Kaila for quite some time after she purchased a few things from my shop. I love her taste in jewelry and she is a relatively new mom, so it is fun to see what pieces she adds to commemorate her son. I’ve also enjoyed talking about mom stuff with her and selling my boys’ hand-me-downs to her! It is awesome when the jewelry community becomes so much more than just about jewelry! Anyway, let’s get into her collection:
“I started seriously collecting in 2019. It actually started with sterling silver and quickly evolved to solid gold later that year.”
“Favorite motifs? None at the moment, unfortunately. I used to collect engine turned hearts for a while and had collected up to 12 at one point. They had a complete chokehold on me!”
“My grandpa is a collector of all things, one of them being jewelry. Throughout my childhood he would give me random pieces of costume jewelry mostly, and a few solid gold pieces here and there. It didn’t matter what it was, anything was special coming from him. He’s always been there for me.”
“I’m always looking for jewelry when I travel! I don’t find much in person to be honest. But I scored big once at a coin gallery in Maine. Other than that, you really can’t beat IG. There are so many talented curators out there, it’s a very slippery slope. After that, eBay! I’ve scored big on there too. It’s always worth having a scroll when you can’t sleep at 2am.”
“I have a 18k mushroom in my collection that everyone loves and I actually won it in a bidding war on eBay! It came down to the wire and on the last second I won it by a mere couple of dollars. I felt sick to my stomach but I was ecstatic that I won it! It’s one of my favorite pieces.”
“A piece I wear everyday is a memory stone that I got from The Moonstoned. It’s a really nice slab of weighty gold that has my fingerprint and my husbands fingerprint on it. We plan on passing it down to our son one day. Other than that, I have my dad’s gold ID bracelet which is my favorite old piece – it’s bold and weighty and of course reminds me of him.”
