A Royal Flush: Items from Diana and other Royals

Later this month, Julien’s will auction another epic collection of clothes and accessories from Diana, the late Princess of Wales. Collectors have already started bidding to acquire some of the items in this collection. While Diana’s items are a huge draw, the auction includes items from other royal family members, making it extra special for collectors and royal family enthusiasts.

It was last year at this time that Julien’s, a valued WorthPoint Industry Partner, held an auction of some of Diana’s clothing and accessories, as well as some photos and cards. WorthPoint was there in New York City when Julien’s held an exclusive premiere of the collection.

The collection coming up this month has even more items, including some from King Charles III. In an email to WorthPoint, Martin Nolan, Co-founder and Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions, said,

This is the largest Princess Diana auction since her own auction in 1997 in NY when Diana sold seventy-nine of her dresses at the behest of her young son Prince William to raise money for her charities. This auction celebrating Diana’s style includes 143 Princess Diana lots and almost 200 items from other royals, including Queen Elizabeth, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Princess Margaret and King Charles 111, and Queen Camilla. People are already bidding online and the live auction takes place at The Peninsula in Beverly Hills on June 26th at 10 am PT.

The collection consists primarily of items from private collections worldwide. Proceeds from some of the items will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK. One of the more highly anticipated pieces in the auction is a floral dress by Bellville Sassoon, often called “The Caring Dress” because Diana wore it frequently to hospital visits and engagements where she would interact with children.

Another item sure to catch the eye of any royalist is the chair used by King Charles III at his investiture at Caernarvon Castle. It was designed in part by Lord Snowdon. Queen Elizabeth II made him Constable of Caernavon, and he oversaw much of the planning at the ceremony.

The Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills will host the live auction while collectors bid in person, on the phone, and online for what is sure to be a historic sale.
