Art Basel has named 285 galleries for its 2025 Miami Beach fair, one fewer than the total for last year’s edition. Galleries span 44 countries and territories and will include some 41 newcomers to the fair, which is scheduled to take place from December 5th–7th at the Miami Beach Convention Center. VIP preview days for the event will be held on December 3rd and 4th.
Founded in 2002, Art Basel Miami Beach is the largest art fair in the western hemisphere.
This year’s gallery list, according to Art Basel, will foreground the most urgent artistic currents shaping the American scene today,” with more than two-thirds of exhibitors at this year’s fair operating spaces in the Americas. Organizers highlighted a particular focus paid to Latinx, Indigenous, and diasporic artists. Several galleries from Latin America and the Caribbean are making their debut this year, including Havana and Madrid gallery El Apartamento, Lima gallery Crisis, and Buenos Aires gallery Pasto.
In addition to this focus, the fair is also emphasizing a “new wave of rising galleries from New York City’s downtown scene,” with newcomers from this area including Margot Samel, Candice Madey, Theta, and YveYANG.
These newcomers will be joined by a returning cohort that includes some of the art world’s leading galleries, such as Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Thaddaeus Ropac, David Zwirner, and White Cube.
“The strength and caliber of this year’s exhibitors reaffirms Art Basel Miami Beach’s centrality within the global art ecosystem,” said Bridget Finn, the fair’s director in a statement. “This edition reflects the vitality of artistic production across the Americas—which continues to shape contemporary art practice, patronage, and discourse worldwise—and the fair’s role as a critical gateway for introducing pioneering international artists and perspectives to the American market.”
The 2025 fair is divided into four sections. Galleries, the fair’s main section, will feature the fair’s stalwart exhibitors; Nova, which will highlight galleries presenting works created within the last three years by up to three artists; Positions, which showcases “young” galleries mounting solo presentations by emerging artists; and Survey, for galleries highlighting historical artistic practices.
There is no mention thus far of the Meridan section, which debuted in 2019 with a focus on monumental artworks and was curated last year by Städelschule rector Yasmil Raymond. Neither are there details yet on the fair’s Conversations program of talks and panels held throughout the fair. Organizers noted that details on “other sectors and additional gallery programming” will be announced in the “coming months.”
New for this year, however, is the Art Basel Awards, which launched in February 2025. The awards honor “exceptional achievement across the contemporary art ecosystem,” and its gold medalists will be revealed at a ceremony on December 4th at the New World Convention Center. The 36 medalists announced in May will vote between themselves to determine this year’s gold medalists.
