Since its debut in 2018, the fair has championed the Los Angeles community with a culture-specific, approachable ethos that feels distinctly of its home city: laid-back, yet fervently engaged. It’s this communal aspect of the fair that is more important than ever just weeks after the devastating Eaton and Palisade fires struck through the nearby Southern California neighborhoods. As the cost of the fires—which have claimed more than 40,000 acres…

“Watership Down,” Martin Rosen’s 1978 adaptation of Richard Adams’ novel about rabbits traveling the English countryside to find a new homeland after their warren is marked for destruction, has been a constant in my life since I first saw it as a child. And it has become an increased source of comfort as I’ve grown older.  Recently my wife Judith, who admires the film as much as I do, has taken to calling it up on the Max platform at night as visual comfort food while going to sleep. By the end of its first episode, NBC’s “The Americas,” the 10-part Tom Hanks-narrated wildlife docuseries, already feels like a missed opportunity. A co-production between NBCUniversal and the BBC, the series bills itself as the first nature documentary to specifically highlight North and South America, the largest, most diverse accumulation of life on the planet. Over the course of five years, the series’ creators ventured on 180 expeditions to capture immersive and intimate footage of common and uncommonly known species of flora, animals and insects. The result is an objectively beautiful series filled with awe-inspiring landscapes and handsomely depicted wildlife…

It was a great movie ride. You might call the ten attractions below the Not-Great Movie Rides. They are all inspired by motion pictures, but they took entertaining source material and turned them into underwhelming or downright boring theme park…

Mark Littler goes by many titles, but he is a whiskey connoisseur at heart. Photo: Mark Littler When you hear the words ” collectors convention, ” you first think of standing in a conference center hall and watching hobbyists pour through sports cards, records, or comics. You picture the attendees decked out in community-appropriate garb that pays tribute to their favorite heroes from their favorite collections.
