Today’s Jewelry Collection Story comes from Janice of @gemsandgoldohmy – who I instantly followed after seeing her feed, where she displays her growing collection of fine jewelry. I love her taste in jewels as well as all the designers and pieces she often features in her Stories. Just like all of us, her wish list is ever-growing, but sharing it with everyone is helpful and fun. Without further ado, here is Janice’s collection:
“I’ve been collecting jewelry my whole life. I’ve always had a fascination with sparkly things. I first started collecting silver jewelry from brands such as Tiffany and Co., Pandora and David Yurman. I sometimes chuckle at the times when I would say I would never wear gold. I was so against IT, and here we are. At around 24, I started getting into gold. I made the mistake of wasting money on so many gold plated and gold filled pieces when the warm hue peaked my interest.”
“I find that I’m so passionate about jewelry because a lot of times, I try to buy pieces that evoke memories and symbolize special moments in my life. I also love to memorialize my family and special trips. Any chance I can buy a piece that represents my daughters, I’ll aways go for it. Touching and holding jewelry is very comforting to me, sort of like a fidget toy but make it jewelry. Ultimately, jewelry is a form of self expression. Jewelry tells a story, and I find so much joy wearing art. I also think it’s mind boggling that people make jewelry with their hands. It’s an honor for me to wear pieces that artisans have spent so much time making. And that is why, handmade jewelry has become my favorite kind of jewelry.”
“To be honest with you, I’m not really into antiques as there’s barely any antique shops in Miami. I haven’t been lucky enough to find one and really take time to appreciate antique jewelry. And since I don’t know anything about it, I would rather just stay away from it. I will say that my favorite motifs are hearts though, and funny enough, I don’t own many heart motif pieces.”
“I wear my wedding set every single day. I can go without rings, but you won’t catch me without my engagement and wedding band. Since it’s so hot in Miami, I can either do a lot of rings and no bracelets or a lot of bracelets and no rings. I always go with the latter. I also wear my bracelets and bangles every day. On my right wrist, I wear my Cartier Love Bracelet I received as a push present from my husband, a gold bangle from a local jeweler and two Yearly Co. bangles. On my left wrist, I wear sweet Alhambra Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet along with bracelets from Blanks Jewelry, Didi Rose Jewelry and Mejuri.”
