Today’s Jewelry Collection Story comes from Meghan of @meggie.gold who I first stumbled upon on TikTok and then followed over on Instagram. I have really enjoyed following her as I’ve seen her journey with making jewelry start from the very beginning. From sketches, to wax carving, creating her own studio space, it has been wildly unbelievable to see how far she has come in such little time. It is obvious that her artistic and creative talent are shining through in the pieces she creates. Meghan has launched her own line of fine jewelry called M.Grace Fine Jewelry and I can’t wait to see more from her in that space. I’m excited she has agreed to give us a look into her personal jewelry collection:
“How long have I been collecting? I think it depends on how we’re defining “collecting”. Like many people, I have worn jewelry for most of my life, and I have some pieces that I inherited or was gifted as a teen. So, in that sense I’ve been collecting most of my life. However, I think I started collecting more “seriously” a few years ago. By seriously, I mean that I started to really prioritize setting aside money for purchasing jewelry rather than other things a few years ago.
I feel like I really only started to develop my jewelry style a couple years ago. As I said, I have a handful of solid gold pieces that I’ve had since I was really young (as my mom is also a jewelry fanatic) but, and people who follow me may be surprised to hear this, I actually wore silver jewelry for many years in college and a bit after! Even all of my ear piercings were silver. I totally was a silver girl for a long time, which is super funny because now I don’t even really mix metals. So, all to say, my gold collection really only started ramping up a few years ago.”
“When it comes to collecting antique jewelry, I’m really drawn to different textures. I love mixing chains of different textures & links, or having a big jumble of charms that are all solid gold, but differentiated by the different textures.
Enamel is another thing that I absolutely adore, and want to add more to my collection. Especially vintage and antique enamel pieces. I’m obsessed with the little pops of color.”
“Like many other people, especially women, I’ve had a really hard time with body image issues my whole life. And for me this really was a big barrier in me developing my style – I think it’s hard to find an appreciation of clothing and fashion when you are so focused (negatively) on how your body looks.
It took me until my mid-twenties (when I finally grew a frontal lobe – thank god) when I started to focus a lot more on accessories than the actual clothes I was wearing – shoes, purses, and JEWELRY. And it was a gamechanger. A way for me to develop my style, feel good about what I’m wearing, AND it doesn’t involve size tags? I’m so in.
After I started really focusing on my jewelry style and then structuring my clothing choices around that, it was much easier for me to be more… body neutral I guess? Like, the focus of my outfits didn’t have to be how my body looks in something, the focus is the BLING!
So yeah, obviously I could talk endlessly about my appreciation of the art and history behind jewelry that makes me passionate about it, but this reason is really the core of my attraction to it.”
“I do the vast majority of my jewelry shopping online. I think at least 50% of my jewelry collection is antique / vintage pieces that I’ve gotten from Ebay! I frequent Ebay, Etsy, and ShopGoodwill. There’s also a handful of vintage sellers that I like, places like Lillicoco, but the majority is honestly Ebay.
I have a handful of pieces that are my everyday wear – or my “jewelry underwear” as Okay______Fine calls it. I wear a ball chain bracelet from Etsy, a flat chain from ShopGoodwill, and the Bettine chain from Didi Rose every day. My birthday present to myself this year was an addition to this daily bracelet stack – a nice chunky vintage biker from Alpha Omega Jewelry.
My engagement ring, an antique rose cut diamond flush set in a custom setting from Vance Davidson jewelry, is basically superglued to my finger.
Of course all of my earrings and piercings are also daily wear – some literally never get changed… and that is a whole rabbit hole I could go down. I’ve always loved piercings, I was that girl who went and got her nose pierced the second she turned 18, and piercings were the first thing I really prioritized when I first started really getting into solid gold jewelry. I’ve spent a lot of time working on my ear curation, and I have a lot of plans for the future, but still am very pleased with how they look now.
The majority of my studs are threadless studs from BVLA, and I have a couple from Beatti on Etsy. My chunky hoops are from Kinn Studio, and my smaller ones from BabyGold. Most of my dangly charms are my own creations!”
