You Season 5 has finally released, bringing to an end the seven-year journey of Joe Goldberg‘s gripping psychological narrative. The final season saw many developments for Penn Badgley’s serial-killing protagonist and his supporting cast. It also closed out their respective character arcs. No, Kate did not die in the ending of You Season 5. While she was presumed dead at the beginning of the finale, the closing scenes revealed that she survived the fire at Mooney’s, which was started by Maddie.
Kate did, however, sustain burn scars from the incident, but she embraced them. She then resumed her life with her son, Henry, and began spending a lot of time with her brother, Teddy. Teddy turned Lockwood Corporation into a non-profit organization after assuming the CEO position.
Kate later returned to her passion for art while also promoting Marienne as an artist.
Meanwhile, Joe Goldberg finally faced justice for his serial-killing ways. Bronte, who was eager to let the world know the truth behind Joe, pretended to still be in love with him. She saved him from Mooney’s fire and accompanied him to a holiday rental. She then pulled a gun on him as they had sex, pressing him for information surrounding Guinevere Beck’s murder.
This resulted in a cat-and-mouse game between the two, culminating in Bronte shooting Joe’s privates, causing him to fall to the ground and allowing the police to take him away.
Joe is then convicted of multiple murders, including Beck’s and Love Quinn’s, and is left to rot in prison for the foreseeable future. In prison, Joe receives a sexually explicit and unhinged fan letter. This makes him wonder why he is jailed, while people like the fan who sent the letter are allowed to roam free. Joe then ponders whether he was the problem or if you were the problem.
