The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 marks a pivotal moment as Ellie and Dina officially embark on their vengeful quest toward Seattle in pursuit of Abby and her associates. What’s more interesting is Seth emerges as an unlikely ally in the latest episode, helping Ellie on two separate occasions as she departs Jackson along with Dina.
Why Seth helps Ellie in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 explained
Seth (Robert John Burke) and Ellie did not have a long feud history, but episode 1 of The Last of Us season 2 showed that the former’s conservative views resulted in a brawl with the latter. Episode 3 was the redeeming arc for Seth, who spoke in support of Ellie’s journey to Jackson’s council. Later, Seth provided Ellie with a special gun and Shimmer.
When Ellie asked Seth how he managed to get Shimmer out, the latter answered, that it was because of Janine’s night watch, as she is sympathetic to their cause. This surprised Ellie, to which Seth reminded her about her speech.
Meanwhile, Seth also spoke in favor of Jackson allowing a team towards Seattle to hunt down Joel’s killers. It could have been Joel’s death that truly changed Seth’s perspective of Ellie.
Seth equips Ellie and Dina with weapons and supplies for their Seattle-bound quest to confront the Washington Liberation Front (WLF). Amid the plot of vengeance and deadly cordyceps, Seth’s actions redeem him as a worthy Jackson resident who knows how to stand up for the right cause.
The episode takes a sinister turn when Ellie and Dina discover murdered tourists in the forest—a grim foreshadowing of dangers ahead. Meanwhile, the WLF has grown exponentially since their previous encounters near Jackson, with the closing scene revealing Seattle overrun with their forces.
As the pair inches closer to their target, it becomes devastatingly clear that Ellie’s pursuit of justice will be far more perilous than anticipated, setting a darker tone for the journey ahead.
